Winter Break Colorado

With winter break just a few weeks away, students are busier than ever, preparing for end-of-semester exams, projects, and papers. Winter break is a much-needed respite from the classroom but taking a break from school doesn’t mean you can’t use your time off wisely.

Here are some great uses of free time over winter break:

For Seniors:
Complete your college applications. Most regular application deadlines fall in January and February, so use your time over break to complete your applications.

Wrap up your college essays. Your college essays are an incredibly important part of the college application process, and they require thoughtfulness and planning. Spend some of your time over winter break finalizing your essays. And, don’t forget to have a family member, friend, or member of our staff proofread your final product.

For Juniors:
Focus on test prep. It can be challenging to juggle the demands of school and ACT/SAT test preparation during the semester. With finals looming, test preparation has likely taken a back seat to your studies. Use winter break to take a handful of full-length practice exams.

For All Students:
Go skiing! Okay, we are a little biased. But—here in Colorado—we are experiencing the best early season conditions in quite some time. Take advantage!

Read a book (or three): We are constantly imploring our students to read more. The truth is reading skills are developed slowly over one’s lifetime, and it’s difficult for students to find time to read for pleasure when school is in session. Need a book recommendation? Enjoy time with friends and family: It’s easy to lose touch with those closest to you when balancing extra-curriculars, sports, academics, and college planning. Find time over winter break to reconnect with your loved ones. Remember, Stress + Rest = Growth.
